Pakistani actress Mahira Khan recently attended the Pakistan Literature Festival in Quetta. During the event, someone from the audience present had thrown something on the stage. The actress did not like this misbehavior. Expressing her displeasure over this incident, Mahira has posted the video of the event on social media. In the clip, the actress is seen expressing surprise on throwing things and saying that now dialogue is not formed, you are throwing things.
The actress has also written a long note along with the video. Mahira wrote, “What happened in the program was not okay. No one should think that it is okay to throw something on the stage, even if it is a flower wrapped in a paper plane. This sets a wrong precedent. This is not acceptable.” Sometimes I get scared, not only for myself but also for others who may get caught in a crowd situation.”

Mahira further wrote, “When we were coming back, someone said ‘After this we will not hold any program here’. I completely disagreed. This is not the solution. There was a crowd of 10,000 or more here… which was our Showing love and excitement in the way they know best. I could see that they didn’t know how to express their excitement, that’s out of 10,000. The Humsafar actress further said, “Maybe I should have got up and left, maybe the crowd could have been checked, maybe I should not have been kept at the spot… a lot could have happened and should have happened.”
There is a need for such events in the cities of Pakistan
Mahira further wrote, “I feel strongly that we need more events like this in other cities of Pakistan. The more you are exposed the more aware and educated you will be. Normalize it. And see what happens. The people, the city, our culture, our understanding of each other (which is lacking), unity (which is even more lacking)… all this will flourish! I met the most amazing people. We sat together under the beautiful sky of Quetta, ate delicious food… we shared stories, laughed and planned my next journey. I have come back prosperous.
